The move aims to enhance the image and credibility of the league by minimizing matchday rescheduling.
Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, highlighted the need to maintain fixture fidelity to present the NPFL as a stable and serious brand. Frequent changes in scheduled matchdays were giving the impression that the league lacked consistency.
In response, Owumi stated, “We are beginning to give a poor impression to our partners and the general public that the NPFL lacks fixtures fidelity due to frequent change of scheduled matchdays.” The league’s reputation had been suffering as a result.
To address this issue, the Nigeria Premier Football League Board has made a decisive policy change. Clubs seeking fixture changes would have their requests denied, except for genuine football-related reasons such as international engagements.
The intention is to provide a clear, consistent, and reliable fixture schedule that aligns with the league’s image and partners’ expectations.
The move signifies a commitment to professionalism and reliability within the NPFL, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the planned fixtures. The board’s stance should contribute to a more organized and credible Nigerian football league.
