The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to citizens against failing to assist officers in danger of being assaulted.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized that individuals who refuse to help officers facing assault could face a fine of N100,000 or a three-month jail term, as stipulated under Section 99 of the Police Act 2020.
Adejobi also referenced Section 197 of the Criminal Code Act, which prescribes a two-year imprisonment for anyone who resists a police officer while they are performing their duties.
In a statement shared on X, Adejobi cited Section 42 of the Police Act 2020, which mandates Nigerians to assist judges, magistrates, police officers, or anyone lawfully seeking aid in arresting or preventing the escape of a suspect.
