Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike JP, Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, has lauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite their 2-1 defeat to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final match of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

In a press statement released by the Office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports (ONPS) Chairman, Prince Ajide Olayioye, Chief Ejidike commended the team for their gritty and tactical performance throughout the tournament.
Despite falling short in the final, Chief Ejidike praised the Super Eagles for their impressive journey to the final, highlighting their resilience and determination to defy odds. He acknowledged the team’s unexpected success, emphasizing their unbeaten run until the final match and their ability to surpass expectations.
Furthermore, Chief Ejidike fulfilled his pledge of ₦1 million for every goal scored by the Super Eagles in the final match against Cote d’Ivoire.
Although the team managed to score only one goal, courtesy of William Troost-Ekong’s header in the first half, Chief Ejidike promptly wired the pledged amount to the team’s captain, Ahmed Musa, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire squad.
Looking ahead, Chief Ejidike urged the Super Eagles not to dwell on the outcome of the final but to maintain focus on the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. He emphasized the importance of securing qualification for the next World Cup, slated to be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA in 2026.
Chief Ejidike’s words of encouragement and financial support serve as a testament to his commitment to Nigerian sports and his belief in the Super Eagles’ potential.
