The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Women’s Commission will join the global community on March 8, 2025, to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), highlighting women’s achievements and advocating for gender equality.

According to a statement from Tony Nezianya, the NOC spokesman, IWD is a time to reflect on progress, call for change, and honour the courage and determination of women who have played extraordinary roles in society.
To mark the occasion, the Women’s Commission will organize all-gender football, handball, and volleyball matches in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri. The sporting events will take place at:
Lagos – Pitch in front of the NTA office at the National Stadium, Surulere
Abuja – Old Parade Ground, Area 10
Owerri – Heartland Training Pitch 2, Dan Anyiam Stadium
Beyond sports, the celebration will feature free medical check-ups and health awareness campaigns to promote women’s well-being. Mrs Kemi Obidahunsi of the NOC will coordinate the event, while the Nigeria Olympic Committee President will officially inaugurate the Abuja event.
The NOC Women’s Commission aims to use this platform to inspire change and strengthen the fight for gender equality through sports and community engagement.
