In preparation for the upcoming eight-team relegation play-off scheduled to kick off this weekend, the Nigeria National League (NNL) has debunked rumors of a Diphtheria disease outbreak in Kano, the host city for the event.
The NNL Chairman, George Aluo, confirmed that extensive efforts were made to verify the situation in Kano, and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has assured them that the city is safe.
“We are in touch with the NCDC to get the right information on the situation, and there is no such censor that we should not go to Kano,” said Chairman Aluo. He further mentioned that they received reassurances from Kano State’s Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Usani Gumel, regarding security and safety during the event.
The NNL Chief Operating Officer (COO), Emmanuel Adesanya, has already arrived in Kano and is collaborating with the local organizing committee to ensure a successful play-off.
The eight participating teams are set to arrive in Kano today, with the draw scheduled for tomorrow, and the games commencing on Sunday. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s support has been crucial in making the NNL relegation play-off possible, and the league expresses gratitude for his investment in the sport.
In a major strategic move, the NNL has appointed MatchRoom Sports and Media, a leading Sports PR and Brand Development agency, as its Strategic Brand Consultants. The appointment is aimed at elevating the league’s brand profile and engaging key stakeholders across the country.
NNL’s Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Attah, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “MatchRoom Sports and Media was identified as a key player to enhance our brand, and we are satisfied with their approach so far.” Meanwhile, Ojeikere Aikhoje, the Managing Director/CEO of MatchRoom, emphasized their commitment to unlocking the potential of the NNL brand, inspiring Nigerians, and making a positive impact on society.
This collaboration marks the first time the NNL has appointed a brand consultant since its inception as the home of second-tier football in Nigeria. With all safety concerns addressed and strategic measures in place, football fans eagerly anticipate an exciting and competitive relegation play-off in Kano.
