Nigeria Labour Congress Strike Disrupts Super Eagles’ World Cup Preparations

As Nigeria’s Super Eagles intensify their preparations for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike has thrown a wrench into their plans.

Eight key players, including Maduka Okoye, Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Paul Onuachu, have been unable to join the training camp.

Although these players are currently in Nigeria, the NLC strike has stalled domestic flights, preventing them from reaching the camp.

Despite these challenges, fifteen players participated in a comprehensive training session on Monday morning at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The two-hour session, led by head coach Finidi George, included fitness and shooting drills, as well as tactical exercises.

In response to the disruptions caused by the strike, the coaching staff has adjusted the training schedule.

Monday evening’s training session has been canceled to allow the players to rest and undergo recovery sessions, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for the upcoming qualifiers.

The Super Eagles remain focused on their goal, overcoming both physical and logistical obstacles, as they prepare to secure victories in their very important World Cup qualifying matches.
