Nigeria, Cameroon Pull Out As Women Amputee Football World Cup Begins In Colombia

Nigeria’s women’s amputee football team, the Special Falcons, have pulled out of the first Women Amputee World Cup event which begins on Monday, 4 November 2024 in Colombia, Sports247 reports

We gathered that Special Falcons who were drawn in Group C alongside Ecuador, the USA, and Ukraine, will no longer take part in the inaugural Women Amputee Football World Cup  due to the refusal of the Colombia embassy to grant the team’s prayer for visa into the country.

The same fate also befell the Kenyan Women Amputee Football team hence the number of teams to participate in the world cup is reduced to 10.

The development is a huge blow and setback to the growth of Amputee Women football in Nigeria as the Special Falcons have been training in Abuja in preparations for the historic tournament.

The Kenya Amputee Women team is the only African team left in the competition and they will play alongside England, Haiti and Peru in Group B.

The World Cup will run from November 4 to November 10, 2024, in Barranquilla Colombia, bringing together the best women’s amputee football teams from across the globe
