Nigeria, Gambia Dominate 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Championship, Secure World Championship Spots

Nigeria and Gambia shined at the 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Championship in Abuja, winning titles and securing spots at the FIVB U18 World Championship.

Nigeria and Gambia emerged as the standout teams at the 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Continental Championship, held in Abuja, with both nations clinching qualification tickets to the FIVB U18 World Championship in Australia and Doha.

Gambia claimed top honours in the boys’ category after a dominant 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) victory over DR Congo in the final. Their triumph underlined the West African nation’s growing reputation in youth beach volleyball across the continent.

In the girls’ final, hosts Nigeria showcased their depth and dominance with Nigeria I defeating Nigeria II 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) to clinch gold. The country also finished third in the boys’ category after Nigeria I beat Nigeria III 2-0 (23-21, 21-17) in the third-place match.

The girls’ third-place encounter saw DR Congo edge Egypt I 2-1 (20-22, 21-16, 15-7), securing the final podium spot in a tightly contested battle.

Nigeria I’s pairing of Pamela Bawa and Joy Lauren stood out in the girls’ event. Speaking after the win, Bawa, who also won bronze at the 2023 African Games, shared her excitement about their qualification for the World Championship.

“The World Championship means a lot to us. We’re going to give it our best. It won’t be easy, but we’re prepared to fight and come out in flying colours,” Bawa said.

With their impressive display in Abuja, both Nigeria and Gambia will now turn their focus to the global stage, determined to make their mark at the upcoming FIVB U18 Beach Volleyball World Championship.
