Nigeria Handball National team defeated Libya 31-24 in their third match in group B
The national male handball team won the North Africans in two halfs of the match; 15-11 in the first half and then had to a laboured 16-13 win over the resurgent Libyans in the second half to get their first victory of the competition.
Coach Rafiu Salami was very excited about the response of the team and feel that the victory will propel the team ahead of other matches to come.
Still disappointed with the loss to Gabon as he feel that it was a match they could have won, Coach Salami is happy with the progress of team and believe they will do better moving forward.
“We have a young team and with time we will get there”. Coach Salami said.
“The match I felt would have made a difference for us was the game against Gabon as we lost for some reasons.
But I’m happy the guys got motivated and work for the victory today and we not last in the group anymore. We are third and the next subsequent games we will do better”.
“With the way we are going if we continue in the same direction, this young teamwill have the best possible results as we can gain” he concluded
Farouk Yusuf was voted the played of the match.
In the other group B match, Angola defeated Gabon 31-26.
Thus Nigeria finished third in group B with 2 points while group winner Angola finished with 6 maximum points while runners up Gabon finished with 3 points and Libya finished last with a point.
Nigeria will play Guinea in a classification match on Monday.
