Burundi’s Head coach, Niyonkuru has admitted that Super Falcons are in no ways a match to his inexperienced, young side as they fell to a 4-0 defeat to the reigning Afcon champion.
He revealed that his side who are playing in thier first major tournament as underdogs came with hope to play thier heart out and leave everything on the pitch.
Niyonkuru explained after the game, “We did our very best today. Nigeria are physically better than us and way more experienced. They have won this tournament a record nine times. That is massive.”
“This is a very big moment for us to get all the experience possible that we can get.”
Despite conceding four goals, Niyonkuru will be proud of how his side tried to contain the Nigerian charge upfront. The Super Falcons had 26 shots at goal with 17 of them inside the box as Irakoze and later Inarukundo had a busy evening in between the posts.
The Burundians also made a total of 30 clearances as well as 13 interceptions on what eventually has turned out to be their last night on the field at the WAFCON 2022 in Rabat.
Niyonkuru whose side is placed bottom of Group C and with no single point in the tournament said, “We wish them [Nigeria] all the best going forward.”
Super Falcons who are through to the quarter finals with a clash against Cameron billed for Thursday finished second in Group C with six points.
