The Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) launched a special fundraising campaign titled “Empower Her” on October 19, 2024, to support the Nigeria Women Amputee Football National Team, the Special Falcons, as they prepare for the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
The tournament will be held from November 4 to 10, marking the first-ever Women’s Amputee Football World Cup.
Nigeria, alongside Cameroon and Kenya, will represent Africa at the tournament, a significant milestone in the history of the sport.
The Special Falcons have been in camp for months, training intensely for this global stage, but financial constraints could hinder their participation.
Through the “Empower Her” campaign, NAFF is urging the public, corporate organizations, and government bodies to lend their support.
“No amount is too small,” reads an official statement from the federation, which underscores the need to ensure the team’s presence at the historic event.
“These women have trained hard and are ready to make history. It would be devastating for them to miss the opportunity due to a lack of funding.”
Nigeria has been placed in Group C, where they will face Ecuador, USA, and Ukraine. With the right support, the Special Falcons aim to showcase their skills, resilience, and dedication on the world stage.
The campaign highlights the importance of supporting the team, as this is the first time a Women’s Amputee Football World Cup is being held, and Nigeria’s participation will reflect the strength and talent of African athletes.
