Super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Pesiro has hailed his team’s performance in 2-1 win against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Nigeria’s first Group A match of the 2023 AFCON qualification campaign.
Nigeria found themselves behind in the early minutes of the first half of the game when Jonathan Morsay gave the visitors the lead in the 11th minute but Alex Iwobi and Victor Osihmen responded back with their 16th minute and 41th minute goals respectively to hand Eagles a 2-1 home victory at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Thursday night.
Speaking after the match in what was his first win in charge of the Nigeria national team, Pesiro said Nigeria were the better side and they deserved to win the match.
“We were better than Sierra Leone in this game, we deserved to win. We changed the setup in the second half, I think it was only the last 10 minutes our opponent had some good moments,” Peseiro told reporters after the game.
“We created a lot of scoring chances, we could have won with a bigger margin, but the team needs more time and we must work,” the Portuguese commented.
The Super Eagles play Sao Tome and Principe in the next match of the qualification round at the Adrar Stadium in Morocco on Monday, 13th June, 2022 as they hope to take charge of Group A that is currently controlled by Guinea-Bissau.
