Niger United of Minna handball club’s coach, Yekini Adebayo is counting the blessings of his side’s recent involvement in the revived National Handball Premier League, and enthused that the outing has improved the quality of his team.
After leading Niger United to beat Safety Shooters of Abuja to clinch the male trophy at Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, Adebayo said he was equally excited with his side’s success in the competition.
The Minna club’s handler expressed delight over the resumption of the handball league, in which he noted that all the competing clubs entered the second phase with better form and more determination to win.
Adebayo said: “I’m delighted that after the absence of the handball league for a very long time, Niger United is the first team to lift the league title. This is good for my team and Niger state.
”There is one thing I want you to know, every coach play the same pattern in handball now but only one thing separates all the teams: fitness.
“That was what my boys showed at the just concluded handball league. The second phase of the handball league was highly competitive.
“Most of the team prepared, in the first phase my boys overran most of the teams with over 20 points, but, in the second phase, we narrowly won.”
