Defending champions, Niger Tornadoes recorded their first victory as they bundled out 36 Lion out of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup pre-season tournament in Ilorin.
It was a hard-fought victory as two second-half goals was what the Ikon Allah Boys needed to keep their campaign alive, leaving 36 Lion strikers to rue their missed chances as it was a game they could have drawn.
Tornadoes broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute as Sodiq Suleiman tapped in from a vantage position and from an assist by Oche Josiah to finish what he started sensationally.
Josiah then got the reward for his hard work as he ended 36 Lion hopes of a come back scoring from another rebound in the 88th minute.
It meant the Nation-Wide League One (NLO) side have conceded 5 goals and are the only team that’s yet to score in the tourney.
A delighted Coach Abubakar Bala said: “Our loss against Kwara Utd in the first game was a wake-up call to the team; the player knew if we must make it out from the group, they must give their best against 36 Lion.
“Just like what happened in the tourney in Katsina, we lost our 1st game but we still made it to the final.
“We mean business coming into the Ogunjobi Gold Cup and as defending champions, my team is favorite to retain to the title. I want to assure you that the Ikon Allah Boys will go all out against another good team, Remo Stars.
