In an announcement made by FIBA, it was revealed that Nigelec Basket Club from Group A and Roche-Bois Warriors from Group E have communicated their inability to participate in the Basketball Africa League qualification round.
Nigelec Basket Club, hailing from Niger, would have embarked on their third consecutive appearance in the first round of the Road to BAL, showcasing their commitment to the competition. However, unforeseen circumstances have led to their withdrawal.
Similarly, the Roche-Bois Warriors from Mauritius have conveyed their unavailability for the qualification phase of the Basketball Africa League.
As a result of these withdrawals, Groups A and E will proceed with three teams each, intensifying the competition for a chance to advance to the second round, known as the Elite 16. The Elite 16 stage is slated to be held in Abidjan and Johannesburg in November.
The anticipation for the 2024 Basketball Africa League Championship is building, with several teams already securing their spots in the prestigious event. Notable entrants include the reigning champions, Al Ahly of Egypt, the Senegalese powerhouse AS Douanes, and the Rwandan champions, APR.
The roster for the event is further bolstered by the presence of Angolan giants Petro de Luanda, who are determined to make their mark after finishing as bronze medalists in the 2022 edition.
Adding to the excitement are former champions US Monastir from Tunisia, along with an eagerly awaited team from Nigeria, set to bring their talents to the grand stage.
The BAL Championship promises to deliver a thrilling showcase of African basketball talent, as teams from across the continent compete for glory in what is becoming an increasingly prestigious and celebrated tournament.
