Ngozi Okobi-Ekeoghene Joins Ottawa Rapid FC Ahead of 2025 Canadian Northern Football League Debut

Nigerian midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Ekeoghene has made her return to club football, signing with Canadian Northern Football League side Ottawa Rapid FC.

The 31-year-old, who recently gave birth to her first child, previously played for Spanish club Badalona during the 2022/2023 season. Announcing the move on her X handle, she shared her excitement:

Okobi is well known for her five-season spell with Swedish side Eskilstuna United before moving to Spain. Earlier in her career, she played for Washington Spirit in the United States and Vittsjo in Sweden.

Her new club, based in Ottawa, Ontario, is set to debut in the Canadian top-flight league in 2025. Ottawa Rapid FC will host matches at TD Place Stadium, located in Lansdowne Park.

A former Delta Queens standout, Okobi has had an illustrious international career. She represented Nigeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2010, 2012, and 2014, clinching the title in 2010 and 2014. She also featured at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Okobi has been part of the Nigerian football setup since 2008, making the jump to the senior team immediately after her U-17 World Cup appearance in 2010.
