The sad news of the death of Nigeria Football Federation Executive member and Chairman of the Nigeria National League, Hon. Chidi Of Okenwa on Tuesday morning has continued to receive outpouring of emotional remarks in the football community.
In a quick response, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), has described the news as a ‘rude shock’. In a statement released on behalf of the foremost supporters club by its National Chairman, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, it said the death of the experienced football administrator who was aged 50 years is another big and unfortunate loss for Nigerian and African football.
Chief Okenwa, who until his death was the Chairman of Enugu State Football Association, reportedly died in a private hospital in Enugu after a bout of leukemia.
Ikpea, in his tribute to the late football administrator stated that Nigeria football would sorely miss him for his selflessness and unbridled services and dedication to the development Nigerian football.
” Nigeria and indeed, the football world would miss late Chief Okenwa. We would miss him for many good reasons, including the vibrancy and professionalism he brought to bear on Nigerian football, and particularly, the Nigeria National League.
” Nigeria Football Supporters Club hereby commiserates with his family, friends, close associates, Enugu State FA, President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick and the entire Nigerian and African football community on the death of this great football technocrat.
” On behalf of the NFSC Executives, members in Nigeria and diaspora, we pray that God will grant his loved ones, the strength and fortitude to bear the pains of this great loss. And we pray, too, that may his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
Meanwhile, the NFSC has mandated its Enugu State chapter chairman, Elder Frank Amadi and the club members in the state to pay a condolence visit on the family on behalf of the NFSC nation wide.
