NFF Warns NPFL Referees To Avoid Trouble

Members of the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, who are part of the officiating of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL have been advised to keep away from acts that may lead them to trouble.

As preparations for the second round of the domestic league gets underway, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has admonished arbiters involved to shuns untoward attitudes while on assignment.

This charge was handed to the referees by the chairman of the NFF Referees Committee, Alhaji Shariu Inuwa Ahlan. Alhaji Ahlan, an executive board member of the Federation who represented the NFF President at the opening ceremony of the Batch B group of the Mid Season Fitness Test at the Goal Project field of the National Stadium, Abuja asked the referees to compel themselves to the rules and regulations guiding the NRA and the competition they are involved in.

He also reminded them of the integrity clause expected of all officials involved in football officiating. Because of what you do at match venues to avoid trouble. “Conform yourself to the rules and regulations guiding your association and that of integrity checks. Mind what you do at match venues”, he added.

Ahlan further stated that members of the NFF Referees Committee are not partisan and can’t be interested in any of the participating teams. “Our committee members are not interested in any team. Therefore, don’t be misled or decieved by any false information to engage in misconduct at match venues”

Speaking on what to expect from the Referees Committe of the NFF, Ahlan revealed that the committee is reviewing all the individual performances of the referees who handled the first stanza with a view to using it for future purposes.

Said he “we are looking at your individual records of performances based on reports of assessments, complaints and other matters arising. Let me inform us that your performances remain criteria for selection for matches. I have the privilege to inform you that if we have the report that you did well, expect that you will have back to back appointment but when it is in the opposite expect sanctions and no more matches”

The program which commenced on Monday with Group A will see Group B move to the classroom and field practicals for training sessions.
