The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF are working to infuse football into school curriculum as part of the government drive to promote football in schools, Sports247 reports.
This was revealed by Onoja Joshua Chief Legal Officer of the NFF in Leicester, England who is currently participating in the 25th Cohort of the FIFA Master Course which began late September in Leicester, England.
Onoja is one of the 25 privileged students of the 2024/2025 edition of the FIFA Master which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the program, taking place at De Montfort University Leicester, DMU.
Onoja who was excited about attending the prestigious football management course says there is a big drive by the football federation and the Nigerian government to promote in schools and they are already working on a plan that will allow football to be fully integrated into the school curriculum as its advantage goes beyond just playing the games.
Onoja said: ” We are working to put football in the school curriculum to encourage and enhance sports participation among students”.
” Apart from playing, students learn about cooperation and competitiveness – skills they can integrate into a larger society” Onoja told DMU.
The FIFA Master is regarded as one of the world’s best sports management courses and, earlier this month, was named by Sports Business International as Europe’s top ranked postgraduate sports management course for a record 12th time.
The program will see students studying in three different universities in Leicester, Milan and Neuchatel, Switzerland, focusing on different subject areas and research studies on Football management and related courses.
Recall the Ibrahim Gusau led NFF board registered Nigeria schools and participated in the 2024 CAF Secondary School Football Competition for the first time since inception of the competition some years ago, perhaps, a pointer to the desired higher level, the NFF is taking school football to.
