NFF Set To Unveil Éric Chelle as Super Eagles Head Coach On Monday

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to officially present Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles on Monday in Abuja.

The unveiling ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Chelle’s appointment, confirmed last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee upon the recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee, marks a new chapter for the national team.

The 47-year-old Franco-Malian coach is stepping into one of the most demanding roles in global football. NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, stated on Sunday that Chelle brings “fresh energy, innovative ideas, and a positive mindset” needed to guide the Super Eagles through the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“We understand Nigerians’ deep passion for football, which has spurred various reactions to Coach Chelle’s appointment. Nevertheless, we urge everyone to rally behind him, as we believe he possesses the qualities necessary for success with the Super Eagles,” Gusau said. “The NFF is committed to providing him with full support.”

During Monday’s event, the NFF will also announce Chelle’s coaching team, which will oversee the Super Eagles B squad at the upcoming African Nations Championship in East Africa before focusing on World Cup qualifiers. The next fixtures include Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.

Chelle recently managed MC Oran in Algeria, leading the club to notable performances. He also took Mali’s national team to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, showcasing his potential to deliver on the international stage.
