Sanusi acknowledged that a massive hype is building up ahead of the encounter in Kigali, and stressed that the task of seeing the Eagles make it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is in the hands of all Nigerians.
While charging everyone to keep praying for the Eagles ahead of what he tagged a ‘must-win-game’ in Kigali, Sanusi assured that all the players, as well as the NFF and National Sports Commission (NSC) know what is at stake.
The NFF’s scribe noted further that the Eagles are a star-studded team that should be able to defeat Rwanda under normal circumstances but the football buff then warned that immense expectations from fans could put undue pressure and distractions on the players.
Sanusi opined, “We have a team that is capable of defeating Rwanda anywhere, any day, but pressure is mounting on the players. That’s because all Nigerians are looking up to us, and they are looking up to the players. The whole nation is looking up to the Nigeria Football Federation and National Sports Commission.”
He, however, gave assurances that all the players and administrators know how important winning Friday’s game is to Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup aspirations, and concluded with a strong tone of optimism that the Eagles will pick all three points on offer in Kigali.
“We should, by the grace of God, try and make the people proud. The fact is that the players have a stake to protect in this match. The Nigeria Football Federation has a stake, National Sports Commission has a stake, and every Nigerian has a stake. The hype is so much, because every Nigerian is expecting victory; and the players are aware of that,” Sanusi pointed out.
