NFF Executive Committee, despite the cancellation of the 2021 FIFA U17 World Cup by FIFA has resolved to allow the Golden Eaglets to participate in the WAFU B tournament.
This was confirmed during the NFF Executive Committee meeting on Monday, held at the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where the committee resolved to allow the participation of the Golden Eaglets in the WAFU B tournament, despite the cancellation of the 2021 FIFA U17 World Cup.
This, according to the Executive Committee is a view for the Nigeria U17 side to qualify for the 2021 Africa U17 Cup of Nations, where it sees the youth tournaments as developmental programmes with the aim of finding out young and potential talents for the Senior National Team.
In the communique released by the committee, it said, “Despite the Cancellation of the 2021 FIFA U17 World Cup Finals by the World Football-Governing Body, the Executive Committee resolved to allow the U17 Boys National Team, Golden Eaglets, to participate in the upcoming WAFU B Tournament with a view to qualifying for the 2021 Africa U17 Cup of Nations, as it sees the youth tournaments as developmental programmes for the purpose of discovering talents for the senior team”, they stated.
