Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau made this known at the well attended unveiling ceremony of the new Super Eagles coach, Sekou Eric Chelle when he was delivering the details of the contract signed by the coach.

The colourful ceremony which took place at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Gusau said the coach will play a supervisory role as he will be seconded to the Super Eagles B who are preparing for the upcoming CHAN competition in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya under the watchful eyes of Coach Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu.

This is a slight shift away from the earlier position of the NFF President who once said that in line with the policy of the NFF, the Super Eagles coach will also be the coach of the Super Eagles B, team with the aim of seeing the home based players from a closer angle and probably, see the ones who are good enough to play for the Super Eagles.

Gusau also clarified that the tactician has signed a two-year contract, with the option of another year, if he qualifies the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

He made it known that coach Chelle is coming with three assistants, and will work with the crew on ground to enhance the Super Eagles’ brand.

The soft spoken president says he was impressed by the right attitude of the chief coach and he believed he would succeed with the Super Eagles.

“I see in the new Head Coach the right spirit and the right attitude, and I have faith that he will take the Super Eagles to the next level. He sees the job of leading the Super Eagles as his dream job, and that is a huge motivation in itself,” Gusau stated.
