NFF Intensifies Investigation Into Mysterious Death Of Former U20 Star Abubakar Lawal In Uganda

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ramped up efforts to uncover the truth behind the tragic death of former Nigeria U20 player, Abubakar Lawal, in Uganda.

Lawal passed away on Monday under unclear circumstances. Initial reports suggested he was involved in a motorbike accident, later changed to a car crash.

However, Ugandan Police later stated that he fell from the third floor of a hotel at the Voicemail Shopping Mall in Bwebajja while visiting a friend, Tanzanian lady Naima Omary, who has since been taken into custody.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, reaffirmed on Friday that the federation, in collaboration with the Federal Government, is determined to uncover the truth.

“The circumstances surrounding his passing remain steeped in mystery, but we are committed to doing all we can to shed light on it,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi has reached out to his Ugandan counterpart, Edgar Watson Suubi, of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), urging for assistance in getting clarity on the matter.

Suubi acknowledged the conflicting reports and assured that investigations are underway, with an official report expected from relevant authorities.

The NFF has also formally requested details on plans to repatriate Lawal’s remains to Nigeria, as the country mourns the loss of the former U20 World Cup player, who had been playing for Ugandan club Vipers FC before his untimely demise.
