Amaju Pinnick has finally seen his reign as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation come to an end as a successor has emerged from the NFF Elective Congress in Benin City, Edo State.
Chairman of the NFF Executive Committee under Amaju Pinnick, Ibrahim Gusau has been elected as president of the NFF.
After initial balloting, Gusau finished with the highest votes, 21, former NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi was 2nd with 12 votes. LMC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko had 6 votes, Abba Yola had one vote, same as Idah Peterside while David Doherty finished with no vote.
There however had to be a runoff as it didn’t satisfy the 21% of the votes and Gusau defeated Idah Peterside 39 votes to 1 after Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko withdrew.
Ibrahim Gusau is the chairman of the Zamfara State Football Association and he was also the chairman of the NFF’s security committee
Recently, he was appointed as a member of the Confederation of African Football’s youth organising committee.
After announcing his intention to run for the office of the NFF President, Gusau promised to work on football at the grassroots. He said, “reinvigorating football at the grassroots will be key in my administration. I promise to prioritise football development across the country. I will also put my wealth of experience to work and ensure we regain our lost glory.”
