“Alex Iwobi does not deserve these attacks. He has a proven track record of utmost dedication and remarkable contributions to the national team.
Let us not forget the pivotal moments he has delivered for Nigeria, such as scoring the crucial goal against Zambia in Uyo, which secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia,” stated Ademola Olajire, NFF Director of Communications, on Tuesday.
Olajire highlighted Iwobi’s significant role in Nigerian football, noting that with 76 caps, Iwobi ranks as the seventh most-capped Nigerian footballer in history.
He emphasized that Iwobi’s patriotic fervor and commitment to national duty are beyond question, urging supporters to show him love and appreciation instead of hatred.
“We are talking about someone who is actually the seventh most-capped Nigerian footballer in history. With 76 caps, Alex Iwobi has nothing to prove to anyone about his patriotic fervour and dedication to duty for Nigeria. Please let us show him love and not hatred.”
Iwobi’s impressive international career spans eight years, during which he has represented Nigeria in various competitions, including the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia 2018 and the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt 2019, Cameroon 2021, and Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
