In a bid to address the ongoing dispute over unpaid wages and allowances, Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has reassured the Super Falcons team of their commitment to promptly resolve the financial grievances.
The coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum, had previously raised concerns about the owed salary and allowances for both the coaching staff and players.
President Gusau, in a recent statement delivered in Abuja, expressed gratitude to Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, for her unwavering support to the Super Falcons during their journey in the Women’s World Cup.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, including the tumultuous issues surrounding their financial compensations, which added immense pressure to the players and coaching staff.
Despite the setbacks, President Gusau announced that each player would receive a commendable sum of $60,000 due to their commendable performance, securing a spot in the round of 16 at the Women’s World Cup.
He emphasized the NFF’s initial hope for the team to progress even further, leading to more substantial rewards for the players.
Addressing the concerns raised by the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) regarding delayed payments dating back to 2021, President Gusau assured that the NFF was dedicated to delivering on its promise.
He confirmed that as soon as the World Cup funds from FIFA are received, the players and officials would be paid their rightful dues.
The Nigerian football community eagerly anticipates the swift resolution of the financial dispute, with hopes pinned on the NFF’s commitment to fulfilling their obligations to the Super Falcons.
The reassurance from President Gusau comes as a positive step forward in addressing the long-standing issues surrounding unpaid bonuses and allowances.
As the NFF’s pledge to settle outstanding payments gains momentum, the Super Falcons’ dedication and hard work on the field continue to be recognized and appreciated.
This commitment to resolving financial matters further underscores the importance of supporting and valuing athletes who proudly represent Nigeria on the international stage.
