The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The squad features a balanced mix of experienced and emerging talent, reflecting Nigeria’s intent to secure their place in the tournament.

Among the three goalkeepers selected is AFCON 2023 standout Stanley Nwabali, who will be joined by Maduka Okoye and Bendel Insurance’s Amas Obasogie. Obasogie’s inclusion marks his return to the national team, adding depth to the goalkeeping department.
The defense is bolstered by the return of South Africa-based Olisa Ndah, alongside captain William Troost-Ekong, who plays for Al-Kholood FC in Saudi Arabia. The defensive lineup also includes Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Olaoluwa Aina, ensuring a solid backline for the Super Eagles.
In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City leads a strong contingent, which includes Raphael Onyedika, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Frank Onyeka, and Alex Iwobi. This group is expected to provide both creativity and stability in the center of the park.
The forward line is spearheaded by Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year, who is joined by Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, and Taiwo Awoniyi. Awoniyi’s return is particularly notable, as he has not been called up since Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Lesotho in Uyo last November.
The Super Eagles will face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 7, before flying to Kigali to take on the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday, September 10. All players are expected to report to camp in Uyo by Monday, September 2, as they prepare for these crucial fixtures.
