The CEO of Buruj Football Club, Waheed Salaudeen has backed Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi to win the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) presidential election describing him as the man capable to further develop Nigeria’s football with his wealth of experience and exposure.
Waheed who made this known following his visit to NFF’s office in Abuja for his players documentation further stated that he’s against bringing in an ex-international not on the basis of condemnation but clarified that they should begin from Divisional FA and Regional FA before vying for the NFF presidency as it’s no child’s play.
He further buttressed his take that ex-internationals need to be grounded in the office environment as it’s different from the pitch, it entails qualification, goodwill and doing the right thing at the appropriate time and pace.
“People talked about Eto becoming the new Cameroon Football President, he deserves to be there cause he has invested a good tone into it, how many Nigerians players have invested in Nigeria football despite acquiring this wealth from this same aura,” he questioned.
“Once they have money, they forget thier root, even if it’s to donate as little as pure water to the grassroots club, none because they don’t see it as a priority so therefore, giving them the mantle of leadership will only worsen the system and make it more rigid.”
He cited Hon. Kunle Soname who is not a player as a benchmark, one who is worthy of emulation and has invested a lot to make sure Nigeria football takes it’s face globally.
“Imagine thier player union, they don’t show up let alone organize or assist it, they have made a lot of money but have failed to give back to the society that made them, how many players have they helped, this is a question each one of them needs to reflect on and frankly answer,” he concluded.
