Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick has been elected and the fifth vice president of Confederation of African Football in the CAF Congress held in Morocco after the ban of former CAF president Ahmad Ahmad.
Along with being elected into the CAF Congress, the NFF president also made it into the 37-man FIFA Council Seat alongside Morocco’s Fouka Lekja winning his opponent Walter Nyamilandou of Malawi 43-8.
“I thank God for making today a reality, we worked and prayed. I also want to thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria very sincerely, president Mohammadu Buhari. This is not political, he stood hundred percent by me from the beginning all through the diplomatic maneuvering from behind the scenes, he ensured that it was done,” Mr. Pinnick said.
“I want to thank the honorable minister (of youth and sports), he was exceptional and nice as there was a lot of work that was done,” he said.
“I also want to thank my exco. Without them there will be no Amaju Pinnick and of course the congress, we did everything we’ve been able to do to make history. This is the FIFA Council, just thirty-seven people in the world and so it has opened doors for a lot of us,” Mr. Pinnick added.
“My first focus will be to see how we can reposition football globally, the CAF family, to see how we can protect them and project them in the right direction being that we have very good leadership and to Nigerians, inadvertently anything that comes, the mere fact that I’m a member of the council is a huge positive for the country,” he concluded.
