The newly appointed Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ANSSDC), Hon. Patrick Onyedum has promised to help Anambra youths to achieve their potential via engagement in active sports.
Onyedum stated this on Friday, 21st October 2022 during the official handover ceremony to assume office as the new man at the helm of affairs in sports from the Director of Sports (Development) and acting Chairperson, Madam Faith Okwonna, who was in charge in the aftermath of the expiration of the tenure of Chief Tony Oli in August.
Onyedum said he will work on strengthening what is in existence as the former chairman, Oli, had laid a good foundation as the maiden chairman of the commission with Team Anambra preparations and achievements at Inter State sporting events such as the National Sports Festival (NSF) and the National Youth Games (NYG).
“Prior to my coming here as the chairman of the commission, I have been in sports activities as an athlete and a sports administrator, so this presents the right platform to serve the public by bringing in my wealth of experience towards further development of sports in the state,” Onyedum stated.
Before his appointment, Onyedum has been the Chairman of the Anambra State Athletics Federation representing the South East zone in the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN). The sports administrator turned politician was a one-time Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
