In his words, Lawal, revealed that he had turned down the offer to take up the same position eight years ago, on the ground that he was not prepared for it then.

“We thank God, because this same responsibility I was offered eight years ago, which I rejected because I felt I was not prepared for such job then.

“May the soul of my boss (Rasheed Balogun) rest in perfect peace. I served him wholeheartedly, I gave him my all and I learn a lot along the line and now that our amiable governor felt I should take the responsibility, I think, I am more than prepared for it and it is going to be with the support of everybody because it is not going to be an easy job”, he said.

Speaking further, Lawal, one of the few players with the rear privilege of featuring for all the three main national teams in the country (the U-17, U-20 and the Super Eagles), promised not to disappoint the governor and the entire people of Oyo State.

He added that though he was very glad and happy with the development, he was short of words becuase his choice was a big surprise to him.

“We are very lucky to have a governor like GSM becuase sometimes when you need to weild the big sticks but instead, you are a man that looks for solution, that is what we are getting today.

“Let me tell you, me and my crew in the last two weeks, we were already waiting for his call to tell us that you are sacked, you are no more competent for the job because of our position then.

“That was about two weeks ago, look at what is happening today, look at our position. It wasn’t a mistake but just because he is a man that will always ask you what is hindering you from making progress and he will profer solution”, added the new 3SC boss.

While assuring the people of the state that he won’t disappoint them, Kabongo, expressed the belief that the dream of the governor to see the team play on the continent next year come to reality was not impossible.

“Like I learnt along the line, nothing is impossible. I’m not going to say it is going to be easy, but all hands must be on deck, we will put in lots of efforts to make sure we make the governor and the people of Oyo State happy.

“Sometime you are saddled with a task and you think it looks so difficult and so impossible, but I will tell you, everything is achievable and like I said, with the support of everybody, I think it is not something that is too much to be done”, concluded the ex international who will combine his new role with his present position of Team Manager.
