Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi’s second half strike was not enough as Leicester City failed to capitalize on home support losing to a resurgent Southampton 2 – 1 at the Kingpower stadium on Saturday in an English Premier League fixture.
Ndidi who was recently snubbed by CAF during its award ceremony in Dakar Senegal earlier in the week was in the starting lineup for the 22nd time this season in the EPL playing the entire duration of the match.
James Ward Prowse put the away side in front in the 11th minute from the penalty spot while Welsh international Shane Long extended the saints lead in the 45th minute just after defender Yan Valery was given his marching orders by referee Michael Oliver after receiving his second caution of the game.
With the second half in progress, Ndidi tapped in from a superb cross from Ricardo Pereira in the 58th minute to pile pressure on 10-man Southampton who held on for their fourth win of the season.
Wilfred Ndidi has scored a total of two goals this season in the EPL more than he managed in the 2017/2018 league season where he failed to score for the Foxes.
