The semi-finals of this year’s Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Tennis League are billed to run from December 1 to 4, with four top teams in contention for the fixtures.
Sports247.ng learnt that Tech Vibes of Jos, Goshen of Ilorin, Offikwu and Leadway Assurance – are set to battle for the two final spots of the 2018 NCC Tennis League.
Information from International Tennis Academy (ITA) revealed that the first semi-final will be between Team Offikwu and Team Goshen of Ilorin on December 1 and 2 at Abuja National Stadium, while the second will take place at Enugu Sports Club on December 3 and 4 between Team Leadway Assurance and Team Tech Vibes.
The third-place tie for the losing semi-finalists and the championship tie, scheduled for the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, will hold from December 6 to 9.
The NCC Tennis League has a prize money of N7m for the winners, ahead of which Enugu will host current national men’s No 1 player, Joseph Imeh and Sarah Adegoke, the ladies’ champion.
Also featuring for both teams are three active former national champions – Thomas Otu for Tech Vibes and Babalola Abdulmumin and Clifford Enosoregbe for Leadway Assurance.
In Abuja, Christie Agugbom, Sylvester Emmanuel, Henry Atseye and Shehu Lawal will play for Team Offikwu, while Blessing Samuel will lead Team Goshen.
ITA director, Godwin Kienka enthused that it would be a weekend of top tennis action and more signs of better prospects ahead for the country in the international circuit.
Kienka said: “We hope that a full week’s rest will do our top players a lot of good and make them play their best games for the tennis fans in Abuja and Enugu.
“These are players coming from two straight weeks of national tournaments, so we hope the rest will help them recover well.
