NBBF Begins Search For New Coach For D’Tigress Ahead Of FIBA Afrobasket Championship

With the FIBA Afrobasket Championship fast approaching, scheduled to take place in Rwanda from July 28 to August 6, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has reportedly initiated the hunt for a new coach to lead the women’s national team, D’Tigress, in the prestigious tournament.

The move comes amidst uncertainty surrounding the position of the current coach, Otis Hughley, as the federation is apprehensive about his commitment due to ongoing challenges with the sports ministry.

While NBBF officials remained tight-lipped about their plans for the championship when approached by The Guardian, an anonymous board member of the federation assured that the situation is being managed effectively. The federation is diligently working to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place before the team commences their final training camp ahead of the competition.

Colonel Sam Ahmedu, a board member of the NBBF and president of FIBA Zone Three, stated that he had not received any specific information regarding the coaching situation for D’Tigress. However, he expressed confidence in the NBBF’s ability to secure a reputable coach, either domestically or internationally, to guide the team.

He further emphasized the federation’s commitment to providing the squad with the best possible preparations for the African Championship. A board meeting is scheduled in the near future to address and resolve any outstanding issues related to the team’s coaching situation.

As the clock ticks down to the FIBA Afrobasket Championship, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will be keen to finalize their coaching staff and focus on intensive training for the upcoming tournament.
