Team Lagos swimmers are expected to win more medals in the Swimming event at the ongoing National Youth Games following their superlative performance on the opening day.
Eight finals were decided on day one of the competition with the state’s athletes claiming three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
Oluwademilade Akanbi secured Team Lagos’s first Gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke for girls with a time of 32:62 seconds and went on to claim her second gold in the 100-meter Butterfly, recording 1 minute, 19 seconds.
The team’s other gold medal was won by Chioma Kanu who recorded 1 minute, 27 seconds in the 100 meters Breaststroke Girls ahead of Ebigide Success of Team Delta and Ebia Obaten Gift from Team Cross Rivers.
The silver medals came from Funmilayo Dimeyin in the 200-meter Individual Medley and Inioluwa Dayo-Dumoye in the 100-meter Breaststroke boys.
The athletes’ dedication and skill, combined with the nurturing environment of their parents and schools enabled the swimmers to make the state proud at the National Youth Games.
The swimming competition continues on Tuesday with more events to be decided at the Swimming Pool of the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
