Team Bayelsa is presently dancing to the tone of rock and roll of financial austerity hovering their domain in the on-going 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja.
The South South riverine contingents, from information gathered from our source, Team Bayelsa shamelessly have resorted to begging fellow contingents representing other state for assistance.
An official who pleaded anonymity said ” the funds approved for the team Bayelsa was inadequately insufficient for the two weeks of the National Sports Festival.
It is rumoured around that the sum of 30 million naira was approved to for over 200 athletes and officials delegates.
The 30 million naira is supposed to cover accommodation, feeding, camp allowances, transportation, medicals and kitting of all contingents which certainly it is not enough to do much.
The anonymous official said It a shame on us that athlete have to borrow each others kits to participate in different events because of the insufficient kits provided.
We just want to use this medium to call on his excellency Governor Dickson Seriake to come to our rescue , in order for the state name not to be disgraced at the end of the festival.
Our performance is gradually dropping because of lack of motivational drive to boast the team’s moral he concluded.
Bayelsa state are presently 7th on the medal table with 2 gold, 14 silver and 6 bronze With a total 22 points to their credit so far.
