Nigeria’s para-powerlifting team captain, Lucy Ejike is relishing the gold medal she won at the 19th National Sports Festival, and says she is happy to add a domestic title to her lofty haul of honours.
Although some observers would reckon she has won everything to talk about on the international stage, Ejike told sports247.ng that winning in front of Nigerians fans is something else to her.
Ejike expressed happiness after she emerged champion in the 61kg class in Abuja, and the five time Olympian said she can now say charity continues at home.
She is also happy that the win has qualified her to be part of the Nigerian athletes that will be take part in the 2019 World Para-Powerlifting Championship in Lagos.
Ejike retorted: “I am extremely excited with this gold medal. Number one, I won it at home in Nigeria and, number two, I have now qualified for the World Championship that will hold next year in Lagos.”
