Following the official cricket game for the first time in the Abuja oval in the ongoing 19th edition of the festival, Ukwenya told sports247.ng that it was a very exciting piece of history.
Ukwenya added that the entire Nigerian cricket family is excited about the development, but admitted there is still more work to be done.
“We are happy that cricket eventually got its debut at the National Sports Festival, but it is still a test run because it work in progress.
“The aim is to observe all the characteristics of the pitch for optimal performance in future,” the NCF boss submitted.
In the same vein, the cricket body’s former president, Emeka Onyeama told sports247.ng that seeing the Abuja Cricket Oval finally get its first match was a dream come true for him and those who conceived the idea.
Onyeama added: “The more remarkable thing is that Nigeria now has a home turf and it’s also the only cricket turf in the West African region.”
