Technical director and head coach of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation (NGF), Anthony Asuquo has called for more competitions for the sport in the country.
While exuding delight that gymnastics is included in the 19th National Sports Festival events’ schedule, Asuqo told sports247.ng that wants Nigeria to build on the achievement.
The respected coach and founder of TIG Gymnastics Club recounted that not having the sports festival for a longtime robbed on gymnasts in the country the opportunity of exposing themselves and competing actively.
The last time the festival was held was six years ago in Lagos and Asuquo said this development would have surely affected a 17-year-old gymnast that might have been discovered then.
Asuquo added: ‘I am happy that gymnastics is included in this year’s National Sports Festival. Although it is coming six years late, we are happy with the opportunity to test our gymnasts and discover new ones.
“The gymnastics federation will do all it can to fish out the best for the country when activities begin on the 13th of December in the Package B gymnasium.”
