The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its dedication to creating a sustainable sports economy by exploring innovative funding models and tapping into the rapidly growing eSports industry.
This commitment was emphasized during a recent session where NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, engaged with private sector stakeholders about the future of Nigerian sports.
During the meeting, Damilola Pedro, Co-founder and Head of Partnerships at Game Africa, delivered the first presentation.
She highlighted the immense potential of the eSports sector to reshape Nigeria’s sports landscape, focusing on opportunities for youth empowerment through video gaming.
“Our presentation focuses on the untapped opportunities in eSports to empower Nigerian youths using video games,” Pedro said. “Nigeria has a viable pathway to unlock the next billions in gaming revenue.”
A second presentation came from Osi-Apagun Lai Labode, MD/CEO of CashToken Rewards Africa, who introduced the Nigeria National Public-Private Universal Sports and Social Security System (NINPPUSSS).
This ambitious initiative aims to transform Nigerian sports funding by generating significant revenue through what Labode described as a “Chancified National Contribution.”
“Our model, developed after years of research, shows how we can generate billions of naira annually for sports,” Labode explained.
“With the visionary leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Honourable Bukola Olopade, we believe this is achievable.”
NINPPUSSS aims to generate approximately N1 Trillion each year, channeling these resources into grassroots sports development and athlete support.
The NSC leadership expressed optimism about the prospects of these forward-thinking approaches to achieving their vision.
This session highlighted the Commission’s commitment to innovative solutions, including the integration of eSports, as vital to Nigeria’s future in sports and economy.
The NSC is focused on realizing President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a dynamic sports economy that harnesses modern trends and funding strategies.
Mallam Dikko and Hon. Olopade reiterated their commitment to exploring new methods to create an inclusive and thriving sports ecosystem.
