Nasarawa United’s promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has elicited praise and financial support from key sports stakeholders in Nasarawa State.
Following the team’s decisive 2-1 victory over Sporting Supreme, which cemented their promotion, officials highlighted the collective effort and support that propelled the team to success.

The State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We thank God for the opportunity given to us to win this game and gaining promotion to the NPFL.
Also, I want to appreciate our amiable Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for being with us always, regardless of the circumstances. We are very excited over this laudable and commendable feat today.”
Hon. Ango also acknowledged the contributions of players, coaches, supporters, and the management team, adding, “What you have done is beyond description; you have done wonderfully and fantastically well.
May God continue to bless your efforts so that, one day, we will be watching you from afar on the screen.”
In a gesture to boost morale, Hon. Ango personally donated N300,000 to the players before the game.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Football Association, Salisu Galadima ‘Basira’, praised Governor Sule’s support and contributed N500,000 to the players and N150,000 to the Supporters’ Club.
He commended the team’s determination, saying, “I congratulate your determination and doggedness throughout this competition.”
Okechukwu Igbokwe, a supporter from Enugu State who performed his NYSC in Lafia, along with friends Ikenna Chukwude and Olisa Kingsley, donated N100,000 to the team, showing widespread support for Nasarawa United.
Club Chairman Dr. Othman Ahmed Ibrahim described the promotion as a ‘historic’ and ‘remarkable’ achievement.
He attributed their success to collective efforts and praised the governor’s unwavering support.
“We started this journey with an empty bus, but today, the bus is overloaded with victory,” he remarked.
Nasarawa United secured their promotion by winning all three games in their Northern Conference Group.
They defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0, Sokoto United 2-1, and Sporting Supreme 2-1 to top their group with nine points.
The team, coached by Usman Adams, will now face Beyond Limits Football Academy in the Super Eight final today June 13, 2024, at ‘The Cathedral’ Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. The winner will receive a prize of N5,000,000.
This accomplishment marks a triumphant return to the NPFL for Nasarawa United, displaying the resilience and determination of the team and its supporters.
