The Solid Miners wasted no time asserting their authority, with centre forward Ugochukwu Leonard marking his return in style, slotting home a brilliant goal in the 6th minute after a precise assist from John Joshua. Right-back Kabir Balogun doubled the lead just eleven minutes later with a stunning set-piece strike, leaving the opposition goalkeeper helpless.

Despite several attempts in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged, ensuring the Premier League side’s progression to the next round of Nigeria’s oldest inter-club knockout competition.

Top dignitaries, including Nasarawa United FC Chairman Solomon Babanjah and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, were present to cheer the team. Former Deputy Governor Professor Onje Gye-wado and Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa also led the state delegation in support of the Solid Miners.

United now await their Round of 32 opponents, which will be determined when Ijele FC of Enugu faces Lautau FC of Jigawa. Having twice finished as runners-up in the National Challenge Cup, Nasarawa United will be aiming to go all the way this year.

Next up, the Solid Miners return to Lafia for a crucial league showdown against defending champions Rangers International FC on Friday, March 21, at the Lafia City Stadium.
