Nasarawa State wrestlers are already in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, to take part in the 2nd edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics which started on Friday, 4th August, 2023, and expected to end on Thursday, 10th of same month, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.
Participating teams are drawn from the 36 States of the Federation and F.C.T., Abuja, as well as twenty Wrestling Clubs, Military and Para-Military Organisations.
The Team Nasarawa delegation comprises eleven Wrestlers, two Technical Officials and a Secretary from the State’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Development who is the leader of the delegation.
The wrestlers are, Emmanuel Haruna(63kg), Ado Yakubu(61kg), Salisu Abdullahi(60kg), Idris Yahuza(57kg), Abdullahi Y. Abdullahi (44kg), GodKnows Paebi(57kg), Zige Kelvin(57kg), Richard Ebidaw(77kg), ThankGod Sunday(61kg), Charity Nguepe(36kg) and Dorathy Nguepe(42kg).
The Technical Officials are Coach Zachariah Ingyaken and Bonny Sunday while Haruna Adamu is the Secretary.
So far, Abdullahi Y. Abdullahi has fought his first fight, beating his Cross-River State opponent by 12-10 points in the 44kg category, and is on the verge of entering the medal stage should he beat his next opponent in his second fight.
Charity Nguepe, however, lost her first fight to her Cross-River State counterpart, 12-0, in the 36kg Girl’s Category.
