As the kick-off date for the Zenith Bank Female Basketball League draws nearer, Nasarawa Amazons, the female Basketball Team of Nasarawa State, have received royal blessings from the Patron of the Team, His Royal Highness, The Andoma of Doma, and founder of the Andoma Foundation, Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Oga, at his Palace in Doma Local Government Area of the State.

Chairman of the Nasarawa State Basketball Association, Alh. Ayuba Tijanni Mohammed, led the delegation to the Andoma’s Palace on Friday, 18th August, 2023.
Nasarawa Amazons will be leaving for Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday, 20th August 2023, where they are expected to join five other teams, namely, Nigeria Customs, Air Warriors, Plateau Rocks, Kada Angels, and Nigeria Army, to participate in the first phase of the 2023 Savannah Conference which dunks off on Monday, 21st August and ends on 27st of same month at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State.
The second phase of the league will hold at the rechristened Lafia Sports Arena, formerly Lafia City Hall, from 18th September to 24th of the same month.
Four teams each from the Savannah Conference and Atlantic Conference will qualify for the main Championship in Lagos to determine the year’s eventual Champions, with the date yet to be determined by Organizers.
Players of the Nasarawa State Female Basketball team have been in closed camp training since Monday, 14th August, in Lafia, preparatory for the league’s commencement.
Speaking from their Camp in Lafia, Team Captain, Doris Shuaibu, expressed optimism that the team would do the State and her people proud in the League.
“We are very ready for the league. We are going to bring the trophy home.
“Though our maiden experience wasn’t too convincing, this time, we will qualify by winning the first and second phases and then go to Lagos for the main Event where we are very confident of bringing the trophy home.
“We are craving the support of the State Government and great people of Nasarawa State as we go for the Championship.”
The Nasarawa State Government is expected to host and bid farewell to the ladies before their departure.
