Today, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, visited the Lafia City Stadium for an on-the-spot assessment of the facility.
He was accompanied by the Ministry’s Director of Facilities and Stadium Management, Yusuf Ahmad, and the Stadium Manager, Mrs. Rebecca Chuja.
This visit was a preparatory measure ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) and Nigeria Premier Football League’s (NPFL) Stadium Inspection Team visit, essential before the commencement of the 2024/25 League Season.
Chief Barr. Danladi emphasized the importance of the stadium being in top condition.
“Ensuring that our stadium meets the required standards is crucial not only for the upcoming inspection but also for the pride and reputation of Nasarawa State,” he said.
During the assessment, the officials examined various sections of the stadium, including the pitch, stands, locker rooms, and safety measures.
Yusuf Ahmad highlighted the significance of the inspection, noting that the condition of the facilities could directly impact the performance of the home team, Nasarawa United FC, as well as the experience of the fans.
Mrs. Rebecca Chuja pointed out areas needing attention and outlined the steps already taken to address them.
“We have made significant improvements, but there is still work to be done. Our goal is to ensure that Lafia City Stadium not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the NFF and NPFL,” she stated.
The 2024/25 NPFL Season is set to commence on 31st August 2024, with Nasarawa United FC hosting the Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan in their first fixture at Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, 8th September 2024.
This upcoming match has raised the stakes for the stadium’s readiness, making today’s assessment all the more critical.
The inspection team’s upcoming visit will determine the final go-ahead for the season’s opening games, and the officials are optimistic that Lafia City Stadium will pass with flying colors.
