Namibia Women Defeat Nigeria Women in T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier

Namibia Women powered past Nigeria Women with a dominant eight-wicket victory in Match 7 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier at the Namibia Cricket Ground, Windhoek.

Nigeria Struggle with the Bat

Nigeria Women won the toss and opted to bat first. Their innings, however, never gained momentum as Namibia’s bowlers kept things tight from the start.

None of the Nigerian batters managed to build a significant partnership, and the team folded for just 70 runs.

Captain Peculiar Agboya’s side struggled against Namibia’s disciplined bowling attack.

Despite a few positive strokes from the middle order, wickets fell regularly, leaving Nigeria short of a competitive total.

Yasmeen Khan Steals the Show

Chasing a modest target, Namibia made a shaky start when skipper Sune Wittmann fell for a duck in the first over.

Kayleen Green added 15 runs before departing in the sixth over.

The spotlight then turned to Yasmeen Khan, who played a blistering knock to guide her side home.

Khan smashed 51 runs off just 30 balls, lacing her innings with eight boundaries and two sixes at an impressive strike rate of 170.

She received good support from Mekelaye Mwatile, who remained unbeaten on 4.

Together, they ensured Namibia crossed the finish line in only 9.5 overs.

Khan’s explosive batting performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

Bowling Highlights

For Nigeria, Lillian Udeh and Muhibat Kehinde Amusa claimed one wicket each.

Amusa, in particular, bowled with good rhythm, conceding just 10 runs in her two overs. However, Namibia’s batting depth proved too strong for the Nigerian attack.

Qualification Stakes Heat Up

This emphatic win boosts Namibia’s chances in the qualifiers, showcasing their strength in both batting and bowling.

Nigeria, meanwhile, must regroup quickly to stay in contention for the World Cup spot.

The Africa Qualifier continues to deliver thrilling performances, and Namibia’s latest triumph sets the stage for more exciting clashes ahead.
