Captain of North East team, Maduabuchi John has lamented his side woeful performance at the ongoing NAFF Amputee Football championship admitting that injuries which plagued his side has proved so costly after they fell to a 3-0 defeat against North West.
North East played out a goalless draw in their opening game against South East at the Surulere Legacy Pitch yesterday and that point earned so far is the only point they have in the championship which has six geo-political zones competing.
“So far, we have had an overwhelming tournament but it’s all down to the fact that we don’t train because we are far apart in different location, so, we just had to quickly come together to participate in this championship,” Maduabuchi allayed in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng after the defeat.
“For now, our progress in this competition is all down to the official because we are on the same point as the third placed team and also on the same goal difference, so it’s all down to them.”
“The team is united but we don’t have substitutions, the same players played the whole first game and also the second. So when a player is injured, we don’t have any option to replace anyone who is tired or injured and that’s why we are having this bad run,” he further explained.
On what the team will do better in subsequent competitions to avoid such situation as this, John assured that the preparation will start early and have a well structured team with substitutions who can come in and help the team.
