Mercy Eze, one of the selected player set to participate in the ongoing Nigeria Amputee Football Federation zonal championship female category is reeling in euphoria with the provision to include the women category after several years of preference to the male counterparts in Nigeria.
The ongoing championship which is currently ongoing at the Surulere Legacy Pitch stadium has seen six geo-political zone in a tight contest for a place in the finals which is set for Saturday, 6th May.
Speaking on the provision for the female category in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng, Mercy who couldn’t contain her excitement praised the Federation led by president Paul Madaukor.
“It’s a beautiful initiative and a game that has brought so much enthusiasm especially for the females because this is the first time in Nigeria where the ladies will be showcasing ourselves in such a public space as this.”
“A lot of us don’t know about this game because we have been training with the guys, the male counterparts for about two years now to get along and and understand the game.”
“We now have a future and a hope here in Nigeria which is Lagos State, now I know certainly that we are going places with what the Federation has put in place.”
“Other countries have thier female team and now we have ours even if it’s just starting to take shape but they now know that Nigeria has a female amputee team now,” she concluded.
