In a meeting held on Monday, January 20, 2025, the President of the Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF), Ambassador Paul Maduakor, reaffirmed his commitment to the growth of amputee football in Nigeria.
Speaking to players from the Special Eagles and Special Falcons during the virtual session moderated by Sarafadeen Olalekan Oyeleke, Ambassador Maduakor expressed his heartfelt appreciation for their contributions to the sport.
In his opening remarks, the NAFF President lauded the Special Eagles for their impressive achievement in securing a spot in the upcoming 2026 World Amputee Football Cup.
“Your dedication and determination have brought pride to our nation,” he said. He also commended the Special Falcons for their pioneering efforts in representing Nigeria at the inaugural Female World Cup in Colombia, despite their non-qualification.
Ambassador Maduakor outlined an ambitious roadmap for 2025 aimed at ensuring continuous engagement and competitiveness among amputee football players. Key initiatives include:
Kick for Love/Glory: A Valentine’s Day event on February 14, 2025, designed to promote unity and showcase talent.
African Women Championship: Plans to host this prestigious event in Nigeria, pending approval.
West African Amputee Championship: A platform for home-based players, with dates and the host nation to be announced.
National Amputee Championship: A replacement for the Zonal Championship, uniting teams from all 36 states.
3rd National Para Festival: Slated for November 2025, with the host city yet to be determined.
Introduction of a National League: A groundbreaking initiative to foster regular competitive opportunities.
Preparation for Major Tournaments: Focused training for the 2026 African Amputee Nations Cup and the 2026 World Amputee Football Cup.
During a Q&A session, players raised concerns and suggestions, all of which were addressed by the President. Ambassador Maduakor assured them of the Federation’s commitment to their welfare and the development of amputee football in Nigeria.
The meeting concluded with a collective prayer, marking the beginning of an exciting year for the NAFF community.
